Mermaid Collection

Posted in interiors, projects, still life on September 28th, 2009 by james

This past weekend I went to Cincinnati to shoot an amazing collection of mermaids for a project I’m working on. My friend Megan has been collecting mermaids of all shapes and sizes since she was a little kid. The result is a bedroom completely covered with them, and boxes and boxes in storage…

“Art From The Heart” Fundraiser

Posted in interiors on September 9th, 2009 by james

I submitted a piece (and was accepted!) for the “Art From The Heart” Fundraiser, which is tomorrow night from 7pm-10pm at the Galleries at Calumet - 22 West 22nd Street, 2nd floor. It’s for a really great cause, which you can read about here. Here’s a link to the Facebook page with even more info and a sneak peak at the show.

I chose an image I shot at my grandmother’s house on the day of her funeral entitled “Birdhouses.” I’m not going to be offering the image through Red Leaf, so the lucky person that bids on it at the fundraiser will be truly lucky indeed!

First Day of School

Posted in interiors, projects on September 9th, 2009 by james

Well, it’s official. Summer is over. Man, that was fast!

Had an enjoyable morning dropping my kids off for their first day. One to kindergarten, the other to pre-school. Who ever thought I’d live this long…

Speaking of school, I spent the summer shooting at the Catholic school down the street from me. It was built in 1928 and, for the most part, has remained just as cool as it was then. Check out some of the shots:

Do You Collect Stuff?

Posted in interiors, projects, still life on May 18th, 2009 by james

Recently I’ve become fascinated with the relationship we humans have with our “things.” I’ve started various photo projects to help me explore this, one of which deals with interesting collections. If you collect something, I’d love to talk to you. It doesn’t matter what it is you collect, it just needs to be somewhat interesting and extensive. It doesn’t matter where you live, I’ll come to you. Below are a couple of images that I’ve shot to start off the series, just to give you an idea of what I’m looking for:

Something I Did This Summer

Posted in interiors on September 25th, 2008 by james

As I mentioned earlier, this summer ended up being very busy.  In fact, the busiest that I can remember.  It was great.  Anyway, here’s some shots from a project I worked on for Tim Boyle Design.  Tim is an architect, and this is a house he built upstate in Garrison, NY.  An amazing space.  I’m hoping to get back up there when the leaves start changing.

One Crazy Summer

Posted in interiors on September 24th, 2008 by james

Wow.  I can’t believe the summer is already over.  And as you can see, I haven’t written anything since May.  I sort of feel like I stepped into a wormhole and jumped three months into the future.  It was a fun and, luckily, very busy summer.  I’m finally updating my site with a slightly new design that incorporates a new section of interiors work.  So if you haven’t been to the site lately, make sure you refresh your browser.  I’ll be updating my portfolio with new work over the next few days, so keep checking back.

The Red Threads

Posted in interiors, still life on May 22nd, 2008 by james

Back in March I started shooting for a bedding and furniture design company called The Red Threads. They’re based in SoHo, and while there was a bit of a space limitation, we shot everything in their showroom. They have these amazing floor to ceiling windows in the front of the store that create some really beautiful light; however, the reflection off of the red-brick building across the street gave me a bit of a headache. Especially since I had promised to deliver color correct images…

Atelier ATA Interiors

Posted in interiors on May 22nd, 2008 by james

Thought I’d post some of the images I shot for Atelier ATA, a NYC-based interior design firm headed up by Traci Alleman - my long, lost next door neighbor. We shot at two locations, an apartment and a doctor’s office. I brought along a couple of “diva lights” (small kinos) and shot everything 4×5 with a digital back (Leaf Aptus 54S). Here’s what I came up with.
